For thirty-six consecutive years, The Times Educational Supplement has sponsored ëMusic for Youthí whose annual events culminate in the Schools Proms at the Albert Hall from 7th to 9th November. Over three nights, 2,500 outstanding musicians, singers and dancers aged between 7 and 21 years old, from across the UK, will be performing to estimated collective audiences of 14,000.
Presented by Howard Goodall, Richard Stilgoe and Classic FM presenter Lisa Duncombe, the Schools Proms celebrate the very best in youth music-making and will feature a range of music, from brass bands, jazz groups, choirs and near professional orchestras. The climax every evening will be a spine-tingling finale of fireworks, balloons and the traditional Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1.
To coincide with this yearís event The TES is co-hosting with NUT and the Royal Albert Hall, an exhibition of photography from the last thirty years of the Schools Proms, which will be on display at the Royal Albert Hall until 25th November.
Carola York, Marketing Director, The TES: ìWe are delighted to once again be supporting Music for Youth. The Schools Proms this year will be tremendously exciting, promising full programmes of diverse music and the chance to see some of the countryís finest young musical talent.ì
The TES sponsored Music for Youth event is the largest schools music initiative of its kind. Since 1971 nearly 2 million people have been involved in Music for Youth activities. Music for Youth provides free access to educational and performance opportunities for all kinds of musicians and audiences across the country, stimulating the grassroots of music making for young people.
