Forget waving a tenner around - women drinkers are making the most of their assets to ensure they get served in the nation’s pubs.
One in four UK females frequently use their cleavage to attract the attention of bar staff, according to research from leading hospitality website caterer.com.
And, not surprisingly, it seems that staff are pulling more than just pints when they’re on the job, with almost a third having dated a customer and a further one in five staff meeting their long term partner while at work. The poll was carried out to launch of a series of online postcards which highlight the poses that British punters need to pull to get served.
Meanwhile, customers who don’t count on their cleavage could try getting served with a smile, as the good old grin was rated as an effective way of getting noticed at the bar by 49 per cent of bar staff. However, fluttering a fiver could mean drinkers go thirsty as only four per cent of pint pullers favour this technique.
When quizzed about which fictional bar staff would make the best landlord and landlady, Shane Ritchie’s character Alfie Moon from Eastenders came out top with over half of the votes (52 per cent), followed by the former queen of the Rover’s, Coronation Street’s Bet Gilroy (12 per cent).
Simon Taylorson, commercial director for caterer.com says: All of us have experienced the frustration of not being served quickly in a bar. With this insight into which techniques are most effective for getting served, British punters need never have an empty glass again!
