Human Resource Group celebrates the life of its founder, Betty Parkinson

Sad loss of successful HR pioneer

Kent based recruitment company, The Human Resource Group, is saddened to announce the death of its founder, Mrs Betty Parkinson, who died peacefully at home on 8th February at the great age of 84.

A determined and colourful character warmly known by her colleagues as ìMrs Pî, Betty started the company herself in the late 1950s as a mother of two. The embodiment of female empowerment, she overcame societies stereotypical view of women in business achieving great success in her professional life.

Betty formed the first recruitment business, Parkinson Staff Bureau, more commonly known in Kent today as PSB, in Dartford in 1957. Her success quickly led to new branches in Chatham, Maidstone, Strood, Dover and Ramsgate. Her son Jack, Chairman of the Group, joined the business in 1977 working to establish new joint ventures.

Almost 50 years on, Betty remained a member of the Board of Directors and saw the company she started grow to its current standing today consisting of 47 joint venture companies and a turnover in excess of 70 million.

Mrs Pís work to champion equality for women in the workforce has never been forgotten; the Group currently boasts 22 female directors. She will be sadly missed by all her family, friends, colleagues and associates.
