Specialist education recruiter, Select Education plc, showed its support for good practice in equal opportunities by taking part in the second annual Bristol Inclusion Awards at the Bristol Council House recently.
The Bristol Inclusion Standard was developed by the councilís Department of Education and Lifelong Learning, the Equalities and Social Inclusion Team and the Childrenís Fund to recognise the achievement of schools in developing good practice and policies which promote equal
opportunities for all pupils, parents/carers and staff.
The event included a presentation on the new Promoting Inclusion in Bristol Early Years Settings pack and video and featured displays of work and performances on inclusion from Bristol schools.
Select Education sponsored a poster competition on the theme, ëLetís Stamp Out Racismí, alongside the local education authority and SARI (Support Against Racist Incidents, and Operations Director Peter Flannery presented the prizes at the ceremony. First place in the competition was won by St Werburghís Primary, second by Hillfields Primary, and third place by Cotham School. The winning poster will be professionally printed and sent to every school in Bristol. The winners also received 25 worth of book tokens for themselves and 100 worth of book tokens for their schools while runners-up received certificates.
Peter Flannery also presented a cheque for 309 to SARI. He had raised the money for SARI from staff at Select Education by going ëback to the floorí for a day, working in Select Educationís Bristol office, providing supply teachers and assistants to local schools. He commented, ëSelect Education is keen to support organisations, whether local and national, whose aims and values match our own. SARI is one of those, so as well as sponsoring the poster competition, I was happy to be part of the ëback to the floorí exercise to raise money to support SARIís work for racial equality. The entries for the poster competition were of a very high standard reflecting a lot of thought and hard work, so the winners deserve many congratulations. Itís a great way of celebrating the hard work, creativity and commitment of schools across the city.î
