Employment and human resource professionals from across the world, will gather in London this April to present new research and share best practice in working with people with sight problems. Employers, human resource managers, equal opportunities managers, policy makers and academics will join hundreds of other professionals at the Vision 2005 conference, billed as the worldís premier event on low vision and sight loss.
ìEmploymentî will form a major part of the fully peer-reviewed conference, hosted by the Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB), which is expected to attract over 2,000 international delegates. Professionals will present on subjects ranging from disability management for employment, to employment problems for blind and partially sighted people in the developing world. Keynote speakers include Bert Massie, Chairman of the Disability Rights Commission, speaking on ìUsing the law to promote equality for disabled peopleî and the BBCís Peter White.
The Vision conference, held at a different international venue every three years, comes to the UK for the first time. RNIBís Chief Executive, Lesley-Anne Alexander, said: ìWeíre delighted to be hosting such a prestigious event. Vision 2005 is held under the auspices of the International Society for Low Vision Research and Rehabilitation (ISLRR). Other themes of the conference include: advances in technology, designing and constructing for an inclusive environment; clinical care and integrating rehabilitation; epidemiology and world blindness; visual function assessment and visual performance; and education.
