The Association received an overwhelming response from members ñ approximately 120 members, 11 of whom finally went forward for election. This compares with approximately 25 interested members of which 12 went forward for election last year.
Qualifying for the election procedure involves candidates being proposed and seconded by 2 other fully paid up members of the Association and submitting a candidate profile outlining qualifications, skills and personal attributes together. This information is published as part of the ballot papers for circulation to all members at the beginning of October. Voting is carried out by the membership during October and is administered by the Electoral Reform Services to ensure independence and validity. The results were then announced at the Associationís Annual General Meeting (AGM) today.
Responsibilities for Board members include setting the policy and strategy of the organisation, practising good governance and attending at least 50% of Board meetings in each 12 months between Annual General Meetings (AGM).
The International Management Board (IMB) manages the business of the Association and simultaneously exercises all the powers of the member-organisation. To enable them to do this, members of the Board are appointed as Directors of the Association, which is a Company limited by guarantee and a registered charity, of which Board members are also required to become trustees. The overall role of the Board is defined by the Memorandum and Articles, and is further detailed in the Governance Handbook.
Following the statutory business of the AGM today, the re-elected Chair, John Peters, told members of his aspirations for the Association and how he believes these can be achieved. He is keen to see that the Association continues to uphold recognition of quality MBA programmes and that MBA-qualified managers benefit from a strong international Association. John spoke widely on leadership following his experience as a Gulf War fighter pilot.
John spent 18 years in the Royal Air Force (RAF), serving on various squadrons flying Tornado GR1. Since leaving the RAF, John has established a successful management development company and currently has been re-elected as Chair on the International Management Board (IMB) of the Association of MBAs. He has extensive international TV, radio, and media experience and has built up an international speaking reputation at public events.
