A recent survey conducted by ExecuNet, an executive job search network, reveals executives are more optimistic about the employment market heading into the fourth quarter.
According to the survey of 181 executives, 30% are ìconfidentî or ìvery confidentî the executive employment market will improve in the next six months - up from 24% last month. Thirteen (13%) are ìnot confidentî and 57% are ìsomewhat confidentî the job market will get better during the next six months.
ìA noticeable increase in hiring activity during the past month has executives more confident about the future,î says Mark Anderson, President of ExecuNet. ìLooking ahead, a strong third quarter earnings season could stimulate additional growth in the executive employment market and alleviate some of the concerns surrounding soaring energy prices.î
Those who describe conditions in the executive employment market over the past 30 days as ìimprovingî increased to 32% in October from 25% in September.
Executives who are currently unemployed expect their job search will take a total of 11.4 months - down from 12.9 months in September. In the past 30 days, they had an average of 2.5 interviews - up slightly from 2.3 last month.
ìThe employment market is not adding executive-level jobs at the rate it did in the late 1990s, but it is steadily improving,î says Anderson. ìUncovering new job opportunities in this type of a market requires an investment in time and energy that ensures no stone is left unturned.î
