AOLR to Join Forces with ORMC

The Association of Online Recruiters (AOLR) has decided to part company from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and to join forces with the Online Recruitment Marketing Council (ORMC).

The Association of Online Recruiters (AOLR), representing the UKís leading internet job boards, has decided to part company from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and to join forces with the Online Recruitment Marketing Council (ORMC).

AOLR members had become increasingly concerned about the ability of the REC to fairly represent the interests of job boards, given that the vast majority of REC members are recruitment agencies, many of who are clients of job boards, thereby creating a potential conflict of interest for the REC.

AOLR members were also concerned that the ongoing consultation with the DTI over Job Boards with regard to the EAA Regulations was being confused by the fact that the REC was ultimately representing the interests of both job boards and employment agencies. As the key tenet of the AOLRís position with the DTI is that job boards are different from recruitment agencies, the AOLR members believe that this distinction is further clarified by moving the collective body representing job boards away from the REC and into the ORMC.

Bill Shipton, Chairman of AOLR, said ìWe recognise the important role that the REC plays in representing the recruitment industry as a whole, but we believe that the interests of job boards will be better served within the ORMC. We look forward to working with our colleagues in ORMC, and to reaching a satisfactory conclusion to our consultation process with the DTI. That is the most important issue facing the job board industry and we must all speak with one voice if we are to protect our long term interests. î

David Hurst, Chair of ORMC, said ìWe think it makes absolute sense to have all job UK job boards represented by one trade body, and we look forward to welcoming AOLR members into our fold, and spreading the word to UK plc about the benefits of using job boards more effectively.î
