Job seekers urged to use professional help as economic recovery flickers

A leading recruitment agency specialising in heavy industry says it too is seeing a slight increase in job opportunities following reports that parts of the economy is growing again.

Birkenhead based Scantec, one of the UKís top 10 rated technical agencies, says demand for engineers and designer is improving in key sectors such as construction, manufacturing while nuclear, oil and gas and green energy remain robust markets. This follows evidence from the National Institute for Economic and Social Research which estimated that Britain had seen economic growth in the three months to August. The announcement coincided with figures showing that the manufacturing sector was enjoying its strongest growth for 18 months. The stock market also bounced back with shares in London hitting their highest level in a year in September this week.

However, Scantecís managing director John Robinson warned that finding high calibre roles is still tough and extremely competitive.

ìThe key message to job seekers is to use professional recruiters as part of your job search,î he said. ìIf youíve been made redundant your career is thrown into flux and there is a high risk of falling into a role below your expectations skills and talents. However, by using a specialist recruiter like Scantec you immediately access a team of people with a vast network of contacts across a range of industries. With our ear to the ground we hear about, and can explore, more opportunities and than any job seeker operating alone. As well as being better placed to find work we can advise job seekers how they can transfer their skills into other sectors where opportunities exist. Although there may be a slight recovery good skilled job opportunities are still hard to find. Job seekers need to stack the odds in their favour and harness the power of a well connected recruiter.î

Mr Robinson added that Scantec is now placing more engineers overseas than ever before in its 19 years of trading.

ìThere is a big demand for skilled engineers in the oil and gas sector in Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Nigeria, Singapore and Russia,î he said. ìIn the past it was mainly expats we were placing who were comfortable with prospect of living overseas. But increasingly weíre placing more people whoíve never lived abroad before because there are lots of jobs and the money is good.î
