- Yesterday’s Office of National Statistics (ONS) figures showed a small increase of 23,000 (0.1%) in the unemployment rate for the three months to the end of April 2010, but more up to date data from Reed Specialist Recruitment reveals the UK employment market is in fact in a much healthier position.
- Since April, Reed has helped 32% more people find permanent work than it did in the same period last year.
“Prospects for job hunters are significantly brighter now than they have been for some time, and are certainly better than might at first appear from the figures released earlier today,” commented Richard Post, Chief Executive of leading recruitment firm Reed.
In the past two months, Reed Specialist Recruitment has seen a marked upturn in the jobs market. During April and May, Reed helped 32% more individuals find a permanent job than in the same period in 2009.
Outlook bright for the next few months
Since April, employers have markedly increased their recruitment activity and interviewed 41% more jobseekers introduced by Reed than they did in the same period last year.
Jobs market recovery widespread
In April and May, the number of people placed in permanent, full-time positions by Reed increased by over 35% across many of the company’s 30 recruitment specialisms.
From finance and financial services, through to engineering, technology, healthcare and office support, Reed has seen the number of people finding permanent positions through the company rise by 39% or more since Easter.
