The rising global dominance of online
recruitment as a means of finding new staff has been highlighted by the latest
hiring drive carried out by the Indian Army, in which all of the potential
soldiers have undergone an online recruitment process.
The scheme shows that online recruitment is considered the best form of finding
candidates by a wide range of sectors in countries across the globe.
The army is looking to fill positions in Personnel Below Officer Ranks (PBOR).
Last week 226 candidates undertook examinations in the Southern Command centre
in Pune for the positions, using a Computer Based Entrance Test (CBET) devised
by Pune-based IT systems company, Eklavya Infosys.
The director of recruiting, Colonel Bharat Dabral, said, Pune is the first centre where CBET is being implemented in the country.
The process involves centralisation of data and evaluation of answersheets. The
results can be declared faster.
The army first began moving its recruitment online two years ago, and the CBET is the first demonstrable result of the two
years of efforts.
The director of Eklavya Infosys, Atish Bihani, said taking the process online
gave it some much-needed additional transparency.
The process starts with the rally and involves body measurements, medical
tests, physical records and so on, all of which are stored in the system along
with candidate's thumb impression, he said, adding the it would also help
eliminate personal biases in the process.
