Michael Colyer, a student at Loughborough University, has been named the Management Undergraduate of the Year, at the TARGETjobs Undergraduate of the Year Awards in association with SHL. The award, sponsored by Enterprise Rent-A-Car, was launched to find the UK’s most promising management student and attracted over 250 entries.
As well as receiving the impressive accolade, Michael has also won a ten-week internship at Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s UK head office including a week in one of its U.S branches.
Michael Colyer said: “It was a great surprise to have won - I didn’t expect it! It has been a tough but enjoyable process. Having already done internships at Accenture and Ernst & Young, I am really looking forward to starting my internship with Enterprise Rent-A-Car.”
Ashley Hever, European Talent Acquisition Manager at Enterprise Rent-A-Car said:“It’s a pleasure to be able to offer Michael an internship and we think he has a very bright future ahead of him. In fact, we were impressed with the overall level of students that we saw as they all seemed to be very passionate about progressing their careers. We are actually hoping to offer the other shortlisted students a work placement too to recognise their hard work and ability.”
The Right Honourable Michael Portillo, who presented the winners with their awards, said: “I have been greatly impressed by the motivation of the students that I have met here. They are dedicated to forwarding their careers and present themselves as top class candidates both through their university work and extra curricular activities. I am sure that they will be very successful in their chosen fields.
Chris Phillips, publishing director at GTI Media, the organisers of the TARGETjobs Undergraduate of the Year Awards, commented: “TARGETjobs would like to congratulate Michael and all the nominees on their fantastic achievements. They have been put through their paces throughout the award assessment process, designed by SHL, and really do deserve to be recognised for their hard work. In today’s climate, students need to do all they can to stand out from the crowd and we have seen some great applicants who are doing just this. I wish Michael all the best for the future.”
The winners were announced at a special awards event at the East Wintergarden in Canary Wharf attracting an audience of over 200.
