SJD Accountancy, the UK’s largest accountants to contractors have started 2013 with a record number of contractors choosing to go Limited and start their own businesses.
Despite the UK economy suffering from periods of uncertainty, the UK contracting market appears to be at its most buoyant with SJD reporting a 25% increase in contractors going limited compared to last year.
Contractor UK, one of the UK’s largest and most respected sites for the IT contractor community, recently reported that temporary IT skills were in such high demand in its first quarter - higher than in any month of 2012 - that contractors are now predicted to see a 7.5% rise in take home pay throughout 2013.
The Bank of Scotland also reported an all-time high for contractors within the Scottish region. The latest Bank of Scotland’s Report on Jobs said that the growth of contractor positions has grown at its fastest rate in over four months, stronger than the remainder of the UK. Demand for contractors appears to be within the IT and computing sector, with engineering and construction also seeing a rise in targeted skill demand.

According to the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo), their annual Yearbook reported that contractors and other flexible workers are now deemed as being an extremely valuable asset, rather than simply being there to cover permanent staff on maternity leave etc.
