MyPeopleBiz Blog: Tackle your recruitment creativity

Do you remember when you were a child and played with your imagination – creating fun games to play with friends, painting and drawing pictures, making up fairytale stories, and all sorts of other amazing things?

“Every child is an artist, the problem is staying an artist when you grow up” – Pablo Picasso

Do you remember when you were a child and played with your imagination – creating fun games to play with friends, painting and drawing pictures, making up fairytale stories, and all sorts of other amazing things?

What happened then?
Somewhere along the way you stopped talking to our imaginary friends and started following the rules instead of making new ones. How sad…We are living in a fast moving world where creativity is a basic skill that, if tapped, will help you succeed and, better still, it can improve if exercised.

Creativity in recruitment
Creativity in recruitment is just as important as creativity in art or any other fields. In an environment of increasing uncertainty, economic turmoil and unprecedented change, creativity is one of the important skills and traits needed for success. Employers are increasingly looking to hire so called “creative people” as a means of getting, and staying, ahead of the competition. Finding and attracting this creative talent is critical and, despite the perception that there are lots of available candidates out there, there is still a war for the best talent. So many companies struggle to identify creative people when recruiting nowadays… And this is all because of the outmoded selection techniques that can lead to the recruitment of the ‘’same candidate’’ again and again. In this job market you, as an employer, will have to do things differently if you want to reach dream candidates and hire creative capital. The whole recruitment process, whether internal or external, has to change. If you want to recruit creative people, then you need to be open to new ideas. That means looking for talent in unlikely places, building a pipeline through talent communities, developing internal mobility programmes and searching rather than just advertising.

So, what can be done to become more creative…again?
Unleash the creativity that’s sleeping inside of you! Contrary to popular belief, people don’t need to have a special talent or education to be creative. It’s something that we all possess in some form or another and it is increasingly what separates us from others.  Get outside the comfort zone and start with an idea that does not immediately link to the familiar.
