FDM group offers graduates IT training in digital hotspot

The birthplace of the UK’s largest IT graduate employer, Brighton, has been hailed as one of the UK’s “geekiest” cities

The birthplace of the UK’s largest IT graduate employer, Brighton, has been hailed as one of the UK’s “geekiest” cities.

A survey, carried out by the computer and electrical goods retailer Ebuyer.com, revealed that Brighton beat London to the title of the third geekiest city in the country.

Scores for each city were determined by assessing the percentage of workers aged 16 to 64 with certified technology qualifications, how many technological job opportunities were on offer in the city and the number of people likely to buy computers, gadgets and electrical products.

These latest findings come at a time when the city’s digital industry employs nearly 4,000 people and contributes £100 million to the local economy.

FDM Group CEO, Rod Flavell, said, “Brighton truly is becoming the silicon beach of the UK and at FDM we are incredibly proud of the fact that we built our business up from this unique, quirky and thriving city. People assume that London is the best place to kick-start an IT career, however these latest statistics confirm that Brighton is equally, if not more, suitable.”

The “11th fastest growing company in Europe” and the UK’s “Best Technical Graduate Recruiter” of 2010, FDM Group, is one of the only companies in the area to consistently offer an impressive amount of IT graduates employment opportunities.

The company will be recruiting 1,000 graduates in the UK this year and despite opening an impressive office and academy in London, the firm has stayed true to its roots by keeping its headquarters firmly in the heart of Brighton.

The graduate recruiter has also just rejuvenated its Brighton Academy to ensure that local graduates, interested in breaking into the field of IT, are offered the chance to train in the region.

Brighton-based FDM Trainer, Louise Collis, said, “As we have two excellent universities on our doorstep here in Brighton it’s incredibly important for us to offer local graduates training opportunities within our Brighton Academy. Training in one the UK’s key technology hubs would also be equally beneficial to these graduates.”

FDM has boosted the cities pool of talented IT professionals even further by collaborating with the University of Brighton to provide exceptional graduates with fully funded Masters degrees in Applied Computer Science.

The firm’s Brighton branch is currently searching for local graduates, interesting in pursuing IT careers.
