This yearís Employment Law Conference from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) will cover those areas of compliance most exposed by changing employer behaviour in the recession.
The conference will take place on the 1 – 2 July 2009 at the Church House Conference Centre, London.
Delivered by an array of legal experts, solicitors and HR practitioners, the conference will explore recent amendments to employment legislation, forthcoming changes and emerging case law. The second day of the conference will focus on Restructuring and Downsizing, reflecting the need for HR directors and managers to make sense of the complex legal process of restructuring, outsourcing and making redundancies through the recession.
Mike Emmott, CIPD Employee Relations Adviser says:
ìThe economic landscape has forced many organisations to make all sorts of critical changes and often very quickly in order to keep their head above water. Weíve seen employers introduce an array of measures, from redundancies to pay freezes and short-time working. Implementing these changes in accordance with legislation is critical in order to avoid what can be drastic repercussions down the line. HR professionals need to be familiar with the legislative requirements to reduce the possibility of legal challenges.
ìThis conference is an excellent forum for HR professionals to get to grips with the latest changes to employment law by developing a clear understanding of what these mean on the ground.î
Key topics covered include:
The Employment Bill 2009
Terminating Employment contracts
TUPE and changing terms and conditions
Managing redundancies and collective dismissals
Introduction and proposed changes to the equality bill
How to introduce mediation into your organisation
The conference will also offer delegates the opportunity to raise specific issues in a Q&A Your questions answered session by Ian Smith, Barrister and Clifford Chance Professor of Employment Law, The Norwich Law School, University of East Anglia and Dominic Regan, Solicitor and Trainer
