The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) and leading engineering recruitment agency Matchtech, are working together to investigate the skills gap of marine engineers in the maritime industry and are inviting those in the sector to complete a short questionnaire as part of London International Shipping Week.
Accessed at http://bit.ly/16Qkbn0, the survey will take no longer than three minutes to complete, and is aimed at gauging views from across the sector, in order to support our upcoming roundtable discussion.
“Our survey will stay open during the run-up to London International Shipping Week (9-13 September) and asks questions about recipient’s organisation and recruitment; women in engineering; the value of professional development; and graduate recruitment including whether or not new recruits are suitably prepared for the workplace,” explains David Kelly, Head of Marketing for IMarEST.
“We are determined to find out what the industry really thinks about these key issues, and invite those at every level to spend time completing the 15 questions. We will be publishing the results, and early indications will also be made available to those participating in our skills gap roundtable which we’re running with recruitment partner, Matchtech.”

The skills gap ‘invitation only’ roundtable will take place on 9 September at the start of London International Shipping Week. Chaired by Rear Admiral Nigel Guild CB, Chairman of the Engineering Council and a past President of IMarEST, it has attracted representatives of key organisations who between them cover shipping, naval and defence, cruise, leisure, ports and offshore oil and gas sectors, as well as unions, academia and associations.
