Commentary: TUC Disabled Workers Conference Study

By Sandi Wassmer, CEO at the Employer’s Network for Equality and Inclusion (enei).

“These statistics are disturbing. There are already disability pay and employment gaps, wherein disabled people are paid less and are less likely to be in employment than their non-disabled peers. Given that disabled people are already disadvantaged in this way, having additional harassment and bullying on top of that puts even more stress and strain on them. Because they fear that they will not be able to find another job. This means they are more likely to end up staying in working environments which are detrimental to their mental and physical health.

“Given that the current Government has expressed a desire to see more disabled people in work, it is incumbent on them to put the right measures in place. This will ensure that disabled people are not harassed or discriminated against in the workplace.”
