International Management of Human Resources Course<br>Teaches Chinese HR Practitioners How to Attract, Retain and Motivate Workers

WorldatWork, O.C. Tanner Co. and WiseChina, an HR training company based in Beijing, recently formed a partnership to bring Chinese HR practitioners new ways to attract, retain and motivate workers and keep their organizations competitive during the countrys current booming economy. The new WorldatWork educational course, International Management of Human Resources (IMHR), covers the total rewards model, performance management, compensation, benefits, work experience, recognition, human resources communication and change management.

The customized four-day course was launched in April 2005 and includes classroom instruction with case studies, team projects, discussion and sharing of ideas, and the opportunity t to meet other HR professionals. A comprehensive examination and the opportunity to earn the exclusive IMHR certificate are also offered. Attendees receive a textbook, a collection of WorldatWork published articles and the 24-Carrot Manager, the best-selling book authored by O.C. Tanners Adrian Gostick and Chester Elton, all translated from English to Chinese.

Taught by WorldatWork faculty Steve Constantin, Ph.D, along with Chinese faculty Dr. Xin Liu, of Renmin University, and Ms. Janna Song, of Saint-Gobain Ceramics, the course has already touched more than 100 HR practitioners during the first several classes in Beijing and Shenzen. Attendees represent such organizations as United Technologies, Boeing, Sina, Bright Oceans Corporation, Siemens, Advanced Technology & Materials, as well as a host of government agencies, academia, advertising companies and attorneys.

More classes are scheduled in various cities throughout China, including Harbin, Guanghou and Huangshen. Their issues are not that different than here in the West, said WorldatWork Director of Global Education and Certification Bonnie Kabin, CCP. The cross-cultural exchange is very valuable to the association and its members. We are learning so much from our new friends that all of us will benefit in the long-term.

This year WorldatWork is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Since 1955, WorldatWork members have designed and administered the compensation, benefits and work-life programs for millions of employees in North America and around the world. A special 50th anniversary Web site (www.worldatwork.org/50thanniversary) is available to learn more about WorldatWork and its impact on the disciplines related to attracting, retaining and motivating the workforce, including interviews and milestones.
