WorldatWork is pleased to announce the names of four authors who received ì2005 WorldatWork Publications Contributor of the Yearî awards for their contributions to workspan magazine and the WorldatWork Journal. The four winners are:

- David E. Alpert, Aon Consulting
- Diane Gerard, Aon Consulting
- Robert Masternak, Masternak & Associates
- Michael Camuso, CCP, CBP, GRP, PHR

The awards were presented at the Author and Reviewer Reception during the WorldatWork Total Rewards Conference & Exhibition 2006 in Anaheim, Calif.

Alpert and Gerard collaborated to write the feature piece, ìFLSA Update: What You Need to Know,î which appeared in the April 2005 issue of workspan magazine. The article presented the background of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), which modified overtime pay rules. The authors presented an overview of the U.S. Department of Labor rules regarding FLSA, and their discussion included the implications of the new rules. The piece concluded by discussing other applicable laws and the risks of noncompliance. workspan magazine is published monthly as a benefit of WorldatWork membership.

Masternak and Camuso developed a paper for the First Quarter 2005 WorldatWork Journal titled ìGainsharing and Lean Six Sigma ó Perfect Together.î The paper examined how gainsharing and Lean Six Sigma proved to complement each other at a pharmaceutical plant in Lincolnton, N.C., that employs 240 people. The combination of gainsharing and Lean Six Sigma served to improve productivity by reducing direct labor costs and heightening awareness at the plant leading to a larger gain than expected for the plantís first quarter. Like workspan, this quarterly publication is a benefit to WorldatWork members.

All WorldatWork Journal and workspan magazine articles published in 2005 were eligible for this award. A team of WorldatWork practice leaders selected the finalist articles, which were judged by members of WorldatWork advisory boards based on practical application (workspan) or quality of research, theory (WorldatWork Journal); clarity of presentation; pertinence to compensation, benefits and total rewards professionals; and contribution to the field.

The reception and awards ceremony was held in appreciation of all of the publicationsí authors and reviewers who contributed their time and expertise to help maintain the knowledge base and quality in WorldatWork publications in 2005.
