KPMG has launched a unique online challenge for students, to take a virtual hot air balloon around the world in 80 days whilst completing business tasks – with the prize of winning a sought after internship at the company. The winner will also receive £1,000 of travel vouchers to travel to any worldwide destination.
Collaborating with global HR services group Penna Plc, KPMG has launched a game called “80 days: Race the World”, where students fly from location to location completing hidden challenges in a bid to be the fastest person to travel the world. With over 200 international KPMG offices being tagged in the game, players need to uncover hot spots and complete tasks before fuel runs out – or it is game over. Players can start again, learning from their mistakes, and keep attempting to get all the way around the world in the fastest time.
The game tests behavioural capabilities that are needed for working at KPMG including: curiosity and an aptitude for innovation; having a global outlook; exercising judgment; and a sense of collaboration and inclusion. The game has also been designed with a social media function, enabling players to engage with other contestants via Twitter to share tips and information.
Daryl Murray, Director of Assessment at Penna, said: “Since the game launched in July, the competition has been very tough! The leader board is full of dedicated students, eager to win the brilliant KPMG prize. Not only is it engaging, but there is a lot of psychology behind the game too. Individuals can demonstrate their dedication and hunger to win the internship, whilst showcasing attributes such as excellent time management and communication skills - all of which are critical to success when working at KPMG.”
Vanessa Soames, Head of Graduate Recruitment at KPMG says: “When it comes to attracting the best talent in the UK, we know that we need to take an innovative approach. Using gamification in our recruitment marketing and attraction strategy is part of our commitment to attracting great candidates in a new and exciting way. And with the dedication we’ve seen from applicants/ gamers so far, it’s obvious we have some brilliant candidates and that the bar has been set high!”
