Whos entitled to work here?

The majority of employers are still unsure who is, and who is not, entitled to work in the UK

The majority of employers are still unsure who is, and who is not, entitled to work in the UK, following the expansion of the EU last May, according to Russell Brown of Manchester law firm Glaisyers.

Even those who do know which ten countries recently joined the European Union are often unclear about which documents they should ask prospective employees to produce before offering them work.

Copies of their original documents should be kept on file to provide employers with a defence from prosecution, and a 5,000 fine per employee, following changes to the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996.

Glaisyers have produced a 4-page leaflet spelling out the Government rules, in uncomplicated language, for employers in doubt about employing foreign nationals.
Copies of this informative leaflet are available from Glaisyers, by íphoning 0161 832 4666 or e-mailing rwb@glaisyers.com
