Wembley Stadium played host to the UK's largest graduate employability event, How to Get Hired Live, on Tuesday 22 April. Organised jointly by TARGETjobs and Bright Futures, How to Get Hired Live involved around 300 undergraduates from over 30 different universities and 50 employers from all sectors, meeting for a day of networking, inspirational speeches and plenty of interaction. The day was hosted by top Radio One presenter Aled Haydn Jones and supported by key event partners Barclays, Centrica, KPMG and Rolls-Royce.
Undergraduates sat around tables with employers and, between formal presentations, they were able to discuss practical ways to be more successful and develop a competitive edge when job hunting. They were also able to ask questions of an expert panel of recruiters and careers professionals. How to Get Hired Live ended with an hour of networking and drinks to enable recruiters to pass on hints and tips to the undergraduates in a personal and direct way - something that would not happen at a more conventional careers fair.
There were presentations from senior and experienced professionals from Barclays, Rolls-Royce, KPMG, Centrica, LinkedIn, Clifford Chance, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, CEB, Higher Education Academy and Network Rail. Alexandra Watson, leading happiness coach, brought the day to a rousing finale.
The key message given to students at How to Get Hired Live was to put on your shiny best when applying for jobs but be yourself and be memorable.
Simon Rogers, Director at TARGETjobs, said "TARGETjobs and Bright Futures are proud to launch an original and compelling event for undergraduates not just to meet recruiters but to learn from their personal experiences of recruitment. All students want to develop a competitive edge and How to Get Hired gives them the knowledge and contacts to become better candidates."
