Considering your first job, looking for a new one, or planning a complete career change?
Deciding what job will be best for you can feel like an impossible task, which is the way many people feel about the prospect of facing the day without help. Thatís why carers are amongst the most valuable and valued members of society - they allow others to really live life to the full.
If youíre searching for a career that will allow you to transform peopleís lives, offer you flexibility and the opportunity to train for qualifications while you work then a career in social care work may be the answer. Recent legislation means that social care workers can progress with NVQs to management roles. This can lead to qualification as a Social Worker, with a number of local authority employers providing financial support through the qualification.
The majority of people know little about what is required to be a care worker, yet over one million in the UK currently help children, families, the elderly and infirm and people with disabilities and mental illness with the everyday tasks that many of us take for granted.
A new campaign, launched this month by the Department of Health to boost the number of people taking up a career in social care, features real-life people and their carers and highlights the diverse range of work on offer as well as showing the personal rewards that come from such work.
The campaign depicts carer Helen helping Joyce, who has previously suffered a stroke, picking out an outfit , Peter teaching Tunde, who has autism, the route he will be using when he starts his new job and Louise getting adventurous as she takes Shaho, who lost the use of both his legs, to a skateboarding park. Without the support of Helen, Peter and Louise, what would Helen, Tunde and Shaho be doing today?
Social care offers people a huge variety of work. From working as part of an outreach team to help families and parents, to being a personal assistant working closely with a disabled person to support them in their day-to-day life to home care assistants working in a team, visiting clients to provide support.
