Viadeo launches film to spearhead NetRep awareness campaign

Film highlights the dangers of posting personal information online and how people need to tailor NetReps to their advantage

Viadeo has today launched a film to support its ongoing campaign urging people to take care of their Internet Reputations or ìNetRepsî. The film, entitled ìThe Job Interviewî, gives a light-hearted account of how employers can easily find information about candidates online that may affect their recruitment decision.

The film highlights a growing trend: people are leaving significant footprints of personal information across the Internet and many are unaware of the impact this may have on their employability. Before or after an interview, employers can check the truth behind peopleís claims simply by googling the candidateís name. What they find may often present a very different picture to that which the candidate would like them to see.

Online footprints
The film has been launched following a research report of more than 2,000 consumers and over 600 employers conducted by pollsters YouGov on behalf of Viadeo, which found that one in five employers have searched for and found personal information about candidates on the web and 59% say it influenced their recruitment decision. A quarter of HR decision makers have actually rejected applicants, based on dubious personal information found online.

The research also showed that information found online can also work positively for job applicants, if the content is appropriate and presented in the right way. 13% of HR decision makers have been affected positively by information found online about a candidate, and would not have taken the decision to recruit them otherwise.
