UK reports strongest overall job creation since 2001 – Comment from Futurestep

Leslie Parsons, Vice President of Strategy and Development at Futurestep

“With recent reports showing strong employment growth up and down the country, it is excellent news for companies and employees alike. Businesses once again have enough faith in the economy to accelerate their hiring efforts, causing job creation across the UK to reach its strongest rate since 2001. Business leaders  have been redefining what good talent looks like and how it will contribute to short, medium and long term business success – and it is clear their focus is on the quality of talent.

“HR and resourcing teams will be under significant pressure to deliver this pipeline of talent  and quickly.  Best in class talent acquisition teams will be prepared with refreshed job profiles that look not only at the skills and experiences but at the competencies, traits and drivers that will find talent that is a fit for the current job but also for the business.  Recruitment process tools and technology need not only to be fast and efficient to meet this pent up demand, but they now need to support a role and organisation fit assessment in order to differentiate talent that will have the most business impact.

“Ahead of the curve businesses, who focus on career development as a key part of their employer value proposition, deliver on this promise from day one in their on-boarding programs. Going beyond the focus of what is needed to be successful in their current job, an on-boarding plan engages the employee in their ongoing career development.

“Such a boost in hiring activity is encouraging, but companies need to focus their energy on hiring initiatives and longer term engagement strategies that will pay off for both the business and the talent itself. Focusing on “fit beyond the hire” and  internal mobility  will help organisations to reduce staff turnover and ensure the best-fit talent remains in place to drive business growth.”
