Two Thirds of UK HR Directors Unaware of Goals of Their Boss or Colleagues

Companiesí Lack of Goal Alignment or Proven Processes and Systems to Communicate Vision and Subsequent Goals Viewed as Primary Obstacles to Success

A recent survey shows that two thirds of UK HR managers are unaware of the goals set for their boss or colleagues, resulting in a lack of integrated company-wide processes and visibility as to how individual efforts result in overall company alignment and clear measurement of employee performance.

SuccessFactors, Inc. (NASDAQ: SFSF), the global leader in on-demand performance and talent management solutions, conducted the survey, focusing solely on goal alignment, of 144 UK HR directors and HR board directors, across multiple vertical sectors and from both the public and private sectors, including financial services, media and entertainment companies.

More than half of the respondents were from organisations with more than 500 employees. SuccessFactors enlisted the expertise of Andrew Mayo, Professor of Human Capital Management at the Middlesex University Business School and recognised HR guru, to draw out the salient points regarding the research questionnaire. Mayo, a member of SuccessFactors' Thought Leaders Network, as well as a consultant, speaker, writer and facilitator in international human resources management, concluded from the respondents that a lack of alignment negatively contributed to both the performance of organizations and its employees.

ìEffective performance systems need to be designed like a building - with floors and pillars connecting with and supporting each other,î noted Andrew Mayo, Professor of Human Capital Management at the Middlesex University Business School. ìIn the same way goals need to be vertically and horizontally integrated - too often they are unconnected to the big picture and to the corporate strategy.î

SuccessFactors will host a webinar with Professor Mayo on March 19, titled, ìBeing Serious about the Asset Value of Your People.î The session will discuss the findings of the survey and focus on the basic principles of human capital management, including how to recognise the intrinsic value of people and how to set up a framework of people-related measures in line with an organisationís performance management system. Erik Berggren, Director of Customer Results and Global Research at SuccessFactors will also participate. The speakers will highlight how maximising human capital value can equal true talent management within an organization, as well as the ëdriversí of being successful.
