Survey reveals jobseekers becoming more blatant when searching the internet and the most popular times for searching a car and home
Midweek blues are pushing the UK workforce into hunting for new career opportunities, according to research published today.
The report from online recruitment website fish4jobs reveals that British productivity falls to its lowest point at 3.15pm on a Tuesday as workers rush online to hunt for new prospects to get them out of their current misery. Each job hunter spends an average of 8 minutes and 37 seconds surfing the internet for a new job once they have logged on to the site, and are likely to return to the site on a number of occasions each day.
The fish4jobs (www.fish4jobs.co.uk) research also reveals that UK workers are becoming increasingly blaze and over confident about their efforts to escape from their current job, with two-thirds (65%) admitting to being caught out job hunting by their boss.
When it comes to concealing online job searches whilst at work, most workers are pretty savvy as a quarter admit to having an important looking spreadsheet tucked away in the corner of their computer screen in case the boss comes past their desk! An incredible 5% reported, however, that their boss didnít mind staff searching the internet whilst at work!
fish4cars and fish4homes also ran a similar survey to identify the most popular times in the week for car and home searches. Results showed that the busiest time is Tuesday lunchtime and late afternoon, still within normal working hours. The average length of time spent on the site for both cars and homes is just under 8 minutes per visit.
This indicates that employees are unafraid to use the internet for personal use at work, whether looking for their new job, home or car - despite many companies claiming they are cracking down on employees abusing the internet during work time.
Joe Slavin, CEO of fish4, said: ìIn our experience, Tuesday afternoons are the trigger point in the week when most employeesí minds start to wander and reflect on their current job situation ñ hence we always see a spike in traffic just after 3pm. Not only do they start searching for jobs, but they also browse for cars and homes on our site during this period.
ìItís worrying to note that some jobseekers are blatantly looking for jobs during their current worktime ñ itís a dangerous game and certainly one that we wouldnít recommend! Luckily, fish4jobs has recently launched a service that enables employers to search CVs themselves. All jobseekers need to do is upload their CV on the weekend and let employers come to them during the week ñ it makes the process much more painless for everyone concerned.î
In total, fish4 sees an average of 410,000 searches for jobs, homes and cars per day on the site. 200,000 of these are for jobs alone. There are approximately 40,000 current jobs, 300,000 properties for sale, and nearly 130,000 cars, vans and motorbikes on the site.
