Top Class Professionals for Low Cost Fees

Last weeks Dispatches on Channel 4 highlighted the failure of Job Centres to match the aspirations and expectations of white collar professionals who have recently become unemployed

Last weeks Dispatches on Channel 4 highlighted the failure of Job Centres to match the aspirations and expectations of white collar professionals who have recently become unemployed. This is about as shocking as injury time at Old Trafford!

It is clear from the Dispatches program that the Job Centre is NOT the place for employers to be recruiting White Collar Professionals - from the stats given during its airing on Channel 4 last week they only have c140,000 'professionals' registered with them. These are minimal numbers compared with those registered on major generalist and niche job-boards. In terms of actual jobs listed on the Job Centre database for these professionals it equated to around 6% (22,000 out of 380,000 vacancies) - they simply don't have enough high calibre jobs listed.

The job centre's one size fits all approach is doomed to failure. They have no history of dealing with highly qualified and skilled professionals in large numbers. Their over worked staff don't have the time or expertise of dedicated Recruiters. They are not driven in the same way a good Recruitment Consultant is. They don't have the relationships with employers or candidates, which is often key in successfully fulfilling both their needs.

This has historically always been the case, it's nothing new. I have always maintained that if the Job Centres performed at the top of their game there wouldn't be room in the market for as many Recruitment agencies as there are. The Job Centre is traditionally for people on benefits/'unemployed' jobseekers and they don't really scrape the surface of currently employed or recently unemployed candidates. No doubt there is a stigma attached to the Job Centre - how many of us employed people have ever considered going to a Job Centre to look for work? Probably very few. For the masses, their first port of call would be job-boards and recruitment agencies.

It is reported that there are c750,000 unemployed but not claiming benefits (the 'hidden unemployed' as they are referred to) - many of which are thought to be middle class professionals. If you are looking to recruit white collar professionals but don't have a large budget or the time to deal with the mass of responses to your advertising - then e-recruitment buddy could have the perfect solution for you.
