The Thurston Group, based at Horbury in Wakefield and at Birkenhead has announced a number of key new appointments and promotions as part of the companyís ambitious plans for growth across a number of market sectors.
With around 350 employees and a predicted turnover of in the region of 35 million for 2008, Thurston are at the forefront of the manufacture and supply modular buildings to industry sectors spanning construction, health, sport, education and the prison service. Having celebrated completion of the first 5millon order last year, secured a successful partnership with Allspace in Ireland and with a growing order book, these recent appointments and promotions are aimed at enabling Thurston to continue its planned expansion and programme of continuous innovation and development.
David Harvey: having spent his early career in the wire and wire rope industry, David has been with Thurston for 3 years as Financial Controller; his role has recently been expanded to include the post of Company Secretary and he is also now a member of the Divisional Board.
Karl Smithson: from his first period of employment with Thurston back in 1992, Karl has held a number of roles leading to his appointment as Sector Sales Manager, with responsibility for two of the companyís key growth areas ñ those of education and health.
Richard Kirk: in 1990 Richard joined Thurston as a fitter; nowís heís taken on the role of Divisional Production Manager, overseeing output across all 3 of the companyís plants, introducing new systems and practices at the Birkenhead facility and driving forward The Thurston Pledge ñ a commitment to eco-friendly business practices.
Roger Wiggins: newly appointed as Business Development Manager, Roger has had an extraordinary career in the modular buildings industry ñ from supplying accommodation for 5,000 troops in war-torn Kosovo to being part of the relief effort to help victims in post-earthquake Turkey and volcano-hit Monserrat. He will share his knowledge and experience of the industry - and the flexibility of modular buildings - with Thurstonís existing and new customers.
Janet Sanders: reflecting Thurstonís increasing commitment to safe work practices, Janet has been appointed as Health & Safety Officer, reporting directly to the CEO, Jonathan Petch, and with responsibility for maintaining, improving and promoting a positive Health & Safety culture across the Thurston Group, both at the factories and customerís sites.
