NEW YORK ñ The New York Times Job Market announced dates and locations for Salute Our HeroesTM: The Veterans Job Fair & Career Expo, a series of events designed to connect job candidates who have served in the military with employers who want to hire them. The events attract hundreds of employers and recruiters looking for talented and highly motivated job candidates, who have served our country.
The enthusiastic response of both employers and veterans to the inaugural ìSalute Our Heroesî in New York City last year prompted The New York Times to expand its successful program of exciting, celebratory veteran recruitment events to four U.S. cities in 2006:
Wednesday, May 17, in the Grand Ballroom at historic Navy Pier in Chicago;
Tuesday, June 13, in collaboration with BostonWorks, at Fenway Park in Boston;
Tuesday, July 11, at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Fla.; and
Monday, November 6 at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in New York City.
Each of these events will provide former servicemen and women ñ and the spouses of active-duty military personnel ñ with myriad job opportunities, career seminars, rsum-writing workshops and more. They also will offer employers the ability to demonstrate their commitment to hiring veterans.
ìMajor companies throughout America recognize that veterans bring to the workplace many intangibles that go beyond the rsum ñ communication and technological skills, teamwork, loyalty, a tireless work ethic, attention to detail, and so much more,î said Thomas L. Bock, national commander, The American Legion. ìThat is why veterans deserve a special opportunity like this to connect with employers who value those qualities in their staff and managers. The Legion is proud to help make that connection as a partner in Salute Our Heroes.î
ìSalute Our Heroesî is being presented in partnership with leading veterans organizations and government agencies. These organizations ñ including The American Legion, U.S.O., Hire Vets First, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, and the Coalition To Salute Americaís Heroes ñ will assist The New York Times in attracting qualified job candidates, lining up a wide variety of public and private sector employers, presenting educational and other programs for attendees, and providing on-site services such as accommodations for disabled veterans.
ìThe success of the first ëSalute Our Heroesí last November was extremely gratifying,î said Jyll F. Holzman, senior vice president of advertising, The New York Times. ìWe were able to salute the men and women ñ and their families ñ whose courage and sacrifice inspire us all, and to provide many of them with great jobs. Expanding into key markets across America will give many more employers the opportunity to honor those who defended our country and to add great, diverse talent to their workforce.î
The New York Times Job Market and BostonWorks offer a broad range of options for organizations to participate in ìSalute Our Heroes.î Various exhibitor and sponsorship packages for Salute Our Heroes include booth space, access to an exclusive rsum database, national print and online advertising, broadcast promotion, signage, on-site marketing exposure, and other custom programs.
Each ìSalute Our Heroesî event will be supported by an extensive multi-media advertising campaign, direct e-mail to more than 200,000 candidates, extensive press efforts, and signage at hundreds of military bases, U.S.O. facilities, American Legion posts and newsstands. A special bannered advertising section, highlighting veteran-friendly employers and career opportunities, will appear prior to each event in the Sunday New York Times and online at NYTimes.com. A special bannered advertising section also will appear prior to the Boston event in the Sunday Boston Globe and online at BostonWorks.com. A comprehensive program guide will be distributed to candidates at each event, and extensive career resources will be available to veterans online at www.nytimes.com/saluteourheroes.
