Temporary recruitment 'on the increase'

An increasing number of companies are hiring workers on a temporary basis, it has been revealed.

The BBC reports that compared to several months ago, one recruitment agency in the East Midlands is seeing a change in the employment situation.

Previously, the firm had to turn away many jobseekers because there was a shortage of work.

Now, the company believes that as a result of the increasing trend for hiring people on a temporary basis, half of the people that arrive looking for vacancies are finding casual positions.

Martin Trainer, chief executive of Leicestershire's Chamber of Commerce, said: Manufacturers are reluctant to take people on full-time, however they are willing to take people on a part-time or casual basis.

A spokesperson for ClickAJob echoes industry concerns.

Employers are worried, so they're only thinking short-term, he says.

But job-seekers have a career to consider and taking the first job that comes simply because it pays could actually work against them when a full-time opportunity happens, he warns.

Now more than ever, people need to be sure of their direction and apply themselves harder to securing the right job for their future prospects.

Meanwhile, research from BackCheck recently revealed that since the onset of the economic downturn, increasing numbers of people are lying on their CVs.
