Graduates from the UKís leading universities are about to be put through their paces as part of a new awards scheme designed to celebrate young talent.
Called the TARGETJobs Undergraduate of the Year, the award scheme builds on the success of the Engineering Undergraduate of the Year award, which was piloted for the first time last year with energy firm RWE npower.
The new awards will recognise the very brightest undergraduates at UK universities. Winning students will need to pass a rigorous three stage selection process which will include bespoke online ability and competency tests devised by awards partner and leading talent assessment solutions provider, SHL. In addition there will be a mix of telephone interviews, assessment centres and scenario-based exercises to help create a ten-strong short-list in each category.
A number of awards covering sectors such as law, business, computer science, finance and engineering have been created and the shortlisted candidates will find out who has won at a special event at the East Wintergarden in Canary Wharf in April 2010.
Chris Phillips, publishing director at Group GTI, the organisers of the TARGETjobs Awards said: ìThis is a great opportunity for undergraduates to show leading employers in their chosen sector what they are made of. The current economic climate means that there are hundreds of graduates applying for each job but with a recognised finalist or winning tag they will be head and shoulders above the competition. Of course, award sponsors will also have access to a rich seam of already tested candidates and can be ahead of the game in picking the very best of the crop.î
