Staff Retention through Sex Education at People Unlimited

Following a successful year long partnership with the Terrence Higgins Trust (THT), People Unlimited has seen an improvement in staff retention and morale

Following a successful year long partnership with the Terrence Higgins Trust (THT), People Unlimited has seen an improvement in staff retention and morale. Staff learned a lot about the invaluable work that THT does and raised thousands of pounds through sponsored running events, a comedy evening, cake bakes, a eurovision party and various other events. However, the greatest bonding and team building occurred during the hours spent making up packs of giveaway condoms for the various Pride events around the UK. ìI was really impressed at the number of hours all our staff put in after work to ensure that we met our commitment to producing 10,000 condom packs, the wine and beer may have helped a little,î said HR Director, Cathy Whitmore.

Volunteering is part of People Unlimitedís strategy to retain and develop their staff. As an indication of their success in this area, People Unlimited has recently been awarded the Investors in People standard for the first time. People Unlimitedís Chairman, David Lale, was delighted with the award, ìInvestors in People is the glue that keeps things together, providing us with a clear framework to develop people in ways which enhances their learning opportunities and our services.î

The Investors in People report recognised that within People Unlimited there is a genuine commitment to continuous development and improvement based on the shared values of honesty, transparency and integrity that are instilled in the staff and the services that they supply.

People Unlimited has recently rebranded from Charity People and includes the recruitment event forum3. This quality award is viewed as further endorsement of the services that it is bringing to the wider non-commercial sector.
