Christopher Knee, Chief Executive of Exeter based training charity St. Loyeís Foundation joined an influential group of members of the Employment Related Services Association (ERSA) in signing the Skills Pledge at the House of Commons last week.
The group of ëWelfare-to-Workí providers were hosted by the Minister for Employment, Stephen Timms, who presented the Governmentís aim of bringing about a step change improvement in the countryís skills base and its ambition for Britain to become world class on skills.
Christopher Knee explained: ìThe services we provide at St. Loyeís have evolved in recent times from an emphasis on training to a focus on job placement.
ìThis strategy accords exactly with the Governmentís welfare-to-work policy and St. Loyeís has shown a lead in what is becoming a highly integrated employment and skills system that can help people both get into work and improve their life chances.
ìWe have already seen the Department of Works and Pensions looking at St Loyeís as a model for others to follow. We were the first among similar organisations to provide a devolved, non-location specific and client-centred service, and policy-makers believe this work provides a beacon for other providers across the country.
ìSigning the skills pledge with other members of ERSA clearly demonstrates our commitment to this ongoing strategy.
ìWe also expect to announce the location of our new Exeter offices within the near future and this will provide the hub of our work going forward.î
