Speakers from public sector to share experiences at Softworld

.

Visitors to this year’s Softworld HR & Payroll event (3 - 4 March 2004, Grand Hall, Olympia, London) can hear how two government organisations have successfully implemented HR and payroll systems across the board.

Following a Welsh theme, this year’s educational programme features case study presentations from both The National Assembly for Wales and Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council.

Delegates to the first session will learn how The National Assembly for Wales replaced its existing HR system to allow staff to maintain their own personal records online. Using the system, from Snowdrop Systems, nearly 4000 staff and managers are now able to keep their own personnel records up to date. The new system forms part of the Assembly’s strategy to devolve some of HR responsibility to line managers and individual members of staff, automating administration procedures, and increasing accuracy of personnel data. Tony Bracey, HR Systems Manager at The National Assembly for Wales will host the hour-long session on the first day of the event.

On the second day, Gareth Caple, Payroll Manager at Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council will tell delegates about his experiences of implementing an integrated e-HR and payroll system from Selima Software Limited. The council, which is the second largest Unitary Authority in Wales, is responsible for paying over 15,000 employees covering several organisations of which Rhondda Cynon Taff Council is the largest with approximately 14,000 employees. Despite tight timescales (six months in fact), Rhonda Cynon Taff achieved successful live runs on all eighteen payrolls in April 2003 (including those of outside organisations). The full range of e-HR modules are now being rolled out across the entire authority, including schools, under control of the Local Education Authority.

Case study sessions are an important feature of the Softworld educational programme comments Liz Wood, Portfolio Director for Softworld HR & Payroll. Delegates can hear first hand how these two large Government bodies went about changing their systems, and embarking on the huge project of implementing a new system. This is a unique way for businesses to learn more about the pitfalls to avoid and the challenges faced, in addition to attending the sessions hosted by impartial industry experts.

The case studies form part of the educational programme which runs across both days of the event. Other sessions focus on industry hot topics from speakers such as SAKS Consulting, PA Consulting Group, Towers Perrin, the Association of Online Recruiters and GEE Publishing.

For the first time, Softworld HR & Payroll is co-located with Softworld Accounting & Finance and Business Performance and Project Management (BPPM, formerly ProjectWorld Spring). Visitor passes will allow a free cross-over between all three events.
