On Wednesday 28 June Eleanor Jones, an employee of Huntress Search recruitment consultancy, based in Croydon, will join hundreds of fun-runners in the British Heart Foundationís (BHF) Croydon Jog.
This is the second year of the event, which hopes to attract people who live, work and study around Croydon. The Jog is a fun run of 3, 6 or 9K around beautiful Lloyd Park; joggers can run or walk as many or as few laps as they wish.
Eleanor, from Birdhurst Rise, South Croydon will be taking part in the 9K because she has known people affected by a heart condition, she said:
ìIím taking part in the Croydon run to help support and raise money for a charity that is very close to my heart. Sadly I lost both my Grandads and my Nan due to heart problems (a heart attack and problems during open heart surgery). I still think about them every day and would give anything for them to be here today. My Dad also takes medication on a daily basis to keep his heart condition under control, which allows him to lead an active and normal life. This is my chance to give something to help thousands of people who are affected by heart disease each year. Before January I couldnít even run for 5 minutes without getting out of breath but through a good training routine and a lot of determination not to mention the support of my close friends, family and work colleagues I have now found myself running for a few miles every week and dare I say it even enjoying it a little. I cant wait for the big day as having been a spectator at last yearís London Marathon I know the atmosphere created by all the spectators will be amazing and the pride in raising money for a good cause will help me go the extra milesÖÖ.. literally.
All Eleanorís colleagues at Huntress will be cheering her on too. Her boss, Alistair Watkins, branch manager added ì we are all very proud of Eleanor for taking part in this event and think she is running for a very worthy cause, which has unfortunately affected many of us through friends and families at some point.î
During 2002 - 2004, heart disease killed over 200 people under the age of 65 in Croydon . Every two minutes someone has a heart attack and people are still more likely to die of heart and circulatory disease than any other serious illness.
Money raised from the Jog will help the nationís heart charity continue to fund pioneering research into the causes and treatment of heart disease that saves and improves the lives of vulnerable men, women and children.
