SkillSoft launches initiative to help businesses maximise their training budgets

As training budgets continue to decrease, online learning provider, SkillSoft, today launches an initiative which allows organisations to select and trial online training which is directly relevant to their business needs.

Kevin Young, Managing Director of SkillSoft, EMEA explains:

According to the CIPD's 2006 study into learning and development, last year training for organisations with 500 or more employees either decreased or remained the same for a staggering 82 per cent. Only 16 per cent reported any budget increase.

This puts a growing pressure on HR and training professionals, as in many cases, demand for training is rising. Our aim in introducing this initiative is to give organisations a risk-free opportunity to discover the cost benefits of adding e-learning to their existing training mix.

Mark Nobbs, Learning and Development Team Manager at Prudential already makes use of online learning to train the company's employees. He says:

Over the past three years our budget for learning and development has reduced by nearly 58 per cent. During the same period, requests for training have increased by over 3 per cent. Through e-learning we were able to deliver more to the business and spend less.

As part of the initiative, SkillSoft will offer organisations of more than 500 people the opportunity to trial up to five on-line courses for up to five employees for a 30-day period. Courses are available in 18 languages and can be selected according to business need from over 5,000 titles across a wide range of curricula. These include management, business, finance and desktop training as well as specialised IT instruction for a variety of disciplines at every level.

Kevin Young concludes:

I hope that organisations make the most of this offer. It represents a real opportunity for businesses to discover first-hand the positive impact e-learning can have on the bottom line; a critical factor when so many training budgets are in decline.
