SHL, the global leader in talent assessment solutions, has joined forces with the V1 Championship, a project launched to find racing car talent, in a bid to seek out driving stars of the future.
SHLís psychometric assessments are being used to find applicants with the competencies best suited to motor car racing and form part of a three-stage evaluation process which also includes a racing simulator task to rate speed and consistency, as well as a ëreal worldí test which combines physical fitness tests and driving assessments.
Over 4,000 people applied to take part in the Championship and the one driver selected as overall winner will go on to be professionally trained by the V1 Championship and Marc Hynes, Lewis Hamiltonís former trainer.
Howard Grosvenor is Head of Consulting in SHLís UK Professional Services business, ìBeing a racing driver is not just about driving a car fast – a driverís race strategy, how they work with their team, the ability to handle pressure and competition and many other attributes, all contribute to making someone a success.
ìFor example, as well as being very fast, Michael Schumacher at Ferrari was able to build a team around him to work together to win multiple Formula One world championships. V1 as with any job, is a case of understanding the ëfití between people and the role for which they are being considered. The online racing and ëreal worldí tests provide one set of answers and the psychometrics provide another, to achieve a fully rounded view of each competitor.î
Jay Marshall is founder of the V1 Championship, ìThe V1 Championship was born out of a desire to give budding drivers from all backgrounds the opportunity to showcase their talents where they may not have had the opportunity to do so. The phenomenal response to our search meant it was essential we worked with the right partners to help identify the winner. Working with SHL to incorporate psychometrics into the selection process has allowed us to test for essential skills which we could not have done accurately or objectively otherwise – meaning we are far more likely to find the best possible person to be crowned winner.î
