SHL Announces Plans to Launch Revolutionary Online Recruitment Tool

SHL is to launch a tool that it believes will simultaneously reduce the cost of testing for recruitment and substantially reduce the risk from cheating

With online recruitment growing, SHL, the provider of psychometric assessment and development solutions, is to launch a tool that it believes will simultaneously reduce the cost of testing for recruitment and substantially reduce the risk from cheating.

Called The SHL Verifyô Range of Ability Tests, this new online recruitment tool will be available to the US and Canadian markets in September 2006 and is designed to make HR directors feel confident in online testing without having to face significant increases in time or costs.

SHL Verify was developed following extensive research with customers that revealed their need to reduce costs and time taken to administer the ability testing process, while at the same time eliminating issues regarding candidate identity. An added HR challenge was to help HR professionals to identify unsuitable candidates early on in the recruitment process ensuring only those likely to succeed would make it through to the later, more expensive stages of the recruitment process.

With SHL Verify, recruiters can authenticate the candidateís ability through a scientifically-based short re-test thereby removing the time and expense of a full length re-test. The solution is also underpinned by regular security audits which include web patrols to detect any sharing or downloading of SHL tests and data forensics to monitor test response data to detect cheating or test fraud. In trials SHL Verify identified 95% of cheats.

Kevin Kerrigan, Managing Director of SHL Americas, commented, ìIn our experience there is no doubt that companies using online assessment testing have improved their organizationís ability to identify suitable candidates early on. Testing allows for a transparent, fair, scientifically based and independent assessment of these large volumes of candidates.

However warning bells are obviously ringing with HR directors when they hear that candidates think it is easier to cheat in a test if it is taken online. Although this may be true with some online tests, it is no longer an option with SHL Verify.î

Kerrigan added: ìSHL Verify has already been warmly received in the UK where cheating was perceived to be a big problem in the recruitment process. I am confident that when it is launched in the US and Canada in September many employers and recruiters will be breathing a sigh of relief in that they can now confidently and fairly select the right candidate for the job.î

SHL Verify is packaged as a 2-stage testing process:

1. The Verify Ability Test

This is a rigorous ability test that is taken unsupervised online, allowing candidates from all over the world to complete it. This test introduces a greater degree of quality, security and flexibility than current ability tests and is powerful enough to be used for both selection and screening.

2. The Verification Test

This revolutionary second test has been designed to scientifically verify the performance of the short-listed applicants who completed the first online test. It can be completed in minutes and is automatically crosschecked requiring no additional analysis by the recruiter.

SHL Verify is also backed by SHLís extensive better practice guidelines that offer HR professionals a set of recommendations for the administration of online testing and in particular unsupervised testing. These enable users to work with online assessment tools in the day-to-day business environment.

Kerrigan concludes, ìSHL Verify removes the need for lengthy supervised testing sessions, allowing companies to bring the full power of an ability test to the front of the hiring process and only invest time in the very best candidates.î
