Seven Unusual Jobs You Didn't Know Existed

Work means different things to different people, with some having a genuine passion for their job and others doing what they need to do for the pay cheque at the end of the week

Work means different things to different people, with some having a genuine passion for their job and others doing what they need to do for the pay cheque at the end of the week.

Whether you love or loathe your job, it’s likely that you will have a dream job that you would do anything to be able to do and this dream position will also vary from person to person, with some wanting to be a roller coaster ride tester and others a marine biologist. And then there are those jobs that simply make you wonder about how great it would be to do them for a living.

Someone’s ideal job – no matter how weird and unusual - will have to meet certain criteria, such as having a good wage and not involving ridiculously long hours. A low paid job that requires you to work seven days a week is unlikely to appeal to anyone.

Let’s take a look at seven of the top jobs in the world that you might not even realise exist:

Waterslide Tester

Arguably the most awesome job in the world for any big kid and let’s be honest, Mondays would seem a whole lot more exciting if the day ahead involved you testing out waterslides. Testers are required to test the slides for everything from safety to fluidity and working outside all day is perfect for office-phobes.

Food Cart Vendors

Spending all day in the great outdoors isn’t a bad way to spend your working life and this is exactly what food cart vendors get to do every time they go to their office outdoor office. You can sell all kinds of food from a cart and hot dog sellers can earn anything from £20,000 up to £65,000 a year, which is more than your average income for a job that doesn’t involve any qualifications.

Snake Milker

This certainly isn’t a job for the faint hearted but it is well paid, so if the idea of a hissing snake doesn’t send a shiver down your spine, you might want to think about becoming a professional snake milker. The venom that milkers extract from snakes can be used for lots of positive things such as creating drugs for different anti-venom.

Roller Coaster Painters

It’s easy not to give too much thought about who was brave enough to do the cladding paint work on the ride you are about to fly down at 100 miles an hour but indeed, someone has to do it. These painters will need to climb high up and be able to paint while Mother Nature does her best to make it as hard as possible, but the great thing about this job is that you get to admire great views rather being stuck inside a stuffy office from 9am-5pm.

Dog Food Testers

Before Rover eats his dinner, a human being has likely tested the food to check it for palatability. You should only consider taking on this role if you have a strong stomach but possible dog food testers will be relieved to know swallowing the food is not required and this is perfect for someone with a passion for man’s best friend.

Chicken Sexers

If your heart is easily melted, this is not a job for you but the £40,000 a year salary might make you think twice. Chicken sexers are required to pick out male chicks from the females in order to send them off to be culled. The good news is that more or less anyone can do this job.

Professional Line Standers

Lots of us hate standing in line and yet some people love to do it for a living. Line standers can earn a lot of money and if you enjoy chatting to people you don’t know and chilling out for anything from a few hours to a few days, this might be the job you’ve always dreamt of.
