Huw Hilditch-Roberts has today been confirmed as the new deputy director of membership at the Chartered Management Institute (CMI)

Huw Hilditch-Roberts has today been confirmed as the new deputy director of membership at the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

Huw joins the Institute from the National Farmers Union (NFU), where he was Head of Membership. In his new role, Huw will be responsible for raising the profile of the Institute and the membership offer as well helping to communicate a clear vision of the Chartered Management Institute, both internally and externally.

With the focus on doubling the number of Institute members over the next five years, Huw will be playing a key role in strengthening and driving the Instituteís membership recruitment and retention performance. He will also be improving the member proposition and will be chairing a cross-Institute group to ensure that the membership offer matches the Instituteís vision.

In his role at the NFU Huw was responsible for sales and marketing management and strategic planning of membership, utilising a team of 380 staff, 250 branches and 12 sales managers. When Huw took on the role of Head of Membership, numbers were at their lowest for 17 years. Huw successfully reversed the decline and 2008 saw a net gain in members.

In his new role at the Chartered Management Institute, Huw will be part of a five strong team and report to the Director of Membership Development, Neil Southern.

Neil Southern says: ìWe are pleased to welcome Huw to the Institute. His knowledge and experience in developing membership will be invaluable to the Institute. Huwís proven track record in sales and marketing management and strategic planning of NFUís membership stand him in good stead for the position of Deputy Director of Membership. We look forward to seeing how Huw will strengthen the team and drive the Instituteís membership forward.î

Huw Hilditch-Roberts says: ìIn such tough economic times the value of membership of the Institute and being able to turn to others for advice and to build your contacts is invaluable. The opportunity to have practical advice at your fingertips to deal with day to day workplace issues cannot be overstated as access to expert advice could be the difference between success or failure. Against this background, I am delighted to take up my position as Deputy Director of Membership at the Chartered Management Institute and am looking forward to the challenges ahead. I am excited about applying my experience to strengthen the CMIís relationships with its existing members, as well as playing a pivotal role in increasing the number of new members.î
