Rogue employers must be put out of business say REC

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has welcomed the launch of the DTIís Vulnerable Worker Enforcement Forum

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has welcomed the launch of the DTIís Vulnerable Worker Enforcement Forum.

ìThe Forum will play a vital role in collecting information about when and how employers get away with not upholding the law,î said Helen Reynolds, the RECís Acting Chief Executive Officer. ìThis renewed focus on enforcement is exactly where the debate should be. The REC believes that employers and recruitment agencies are already subject to comprehensive laws and rules. If all workers are to be protected by these rules, rogue employers need to be put out of business.î

The REC will sit on the Forum as one of the employersí voices. Commenting further, Helen Reynolds said: ìIn recent months, the recruitment industry has been under sustained attack from the trade unions with the suggestion that temporary workers do not have enough rights.

ìThe REC believes that the balance is currently right, allowing recruitment agencies to put 1.2 million temporary workers into work every week. This is a vital contribution to the flexibility of UK plc and helps to sustain employment levels. Where cases of abuse of workers are found, these have to be cracked down on by the Governmentís enforcement agencies.

ìThe REC hopes that the Forum will highlight how best these resources can be used to put rogue employers out of business for good, î Helen added.
