Robbie Cowling, founder of JobServe (the worldís first online recruitment web site) has this week launched, JobG8 (pronounced JobGate) a new start-up company based on his latest innovation which he confidently predicts will help all Job Boards, especially his competitors.
Since inventing the concept of online recruiting web sites with John Witney in 1994 Robbie has witnessed the amazing growth of the online recruitment industry with a proliferation of job boards springing up across the world. The success of online recruiting stems from the advantages of job boards being faster, cheaper and more effective than the traditional method of advertising in the press.
However, Robbie recently noticed just how fragmented the job board industry has become. With so many new entrants into the job board market and so many job boards to chose from, job seekers are forced to search multiple job boardsí web sites to ensure they are viewing a large enough selection of jobs. Likewise recruiters are forced to advertise their positions over a large number of job boards to ensure their jobs are being put in front of enough relevant job seekers.
The proliferation of job boards, although not ideal, is not such an issue for the job seekers who soon determine which job boards deliver the best results in their own particular employment niche. But for the recruiters, who are often seeking a different candidate in a different sector from one day to the next, it can be very challenging and time consuming.
Robbie explains, ì It is common knowledge that JobServe are very strong in the IT sector and when they are looking to grow their own IT staff JobServe never use any other advertising media than its own web site. But when it comes to finding staff for other departments such as sales or finance, then JobServe have relied on using a mixture of other job boards depending upon the role to complement its own site.î
Robbie adds, ìItís hard enough for JobServe to keep up with which job boards will deliver the best results in which industries and the company is a leading player in the online recruitment space. For many other companies it must be a real minefield because the traditional press is not as effective as it used to be and chances are that using just a single job board or even two is not going to be effective either.î
The idea Robbie has implemented to overcome this issue is both simple and brilliant. It is simple because it joins together the parts that are already in place and brilliant because everybody wins, including those companies that currently compete fiercely with JobServe.
ìIn a nut shellî says Robbie, ìJobG8 creates a network of job boards who whilst retaining their complete autonomy are able to harness the combined effect of all of the job boards in the network. And, it operates a true Pay for Performance business model so whoever it is in the network who adds the value, get the reward.î
This means that another Job Board can advertise their positions to JobServeís IT candidates and when you consider that JobServe have dominated this sector for more than 14 years it appears to be a very brave move by the man from Essex.
