Jobseekers looking for that extra experience on their CV when searching for the perfect retail job can seek no more. A new initiative announced today from retailchoice.com will help them land their ideal job with the chance of volunteer work in charity shops.
Retailchoice.com approached a number of UK charities with high street shops, to invite them to post vacant positions within their shops on the site for free.
Greg Baines, marketing manager of retilachoice.com says: ìThere are a number of roles which jobseekers can benefit from, sales assistants, stock preparers, music, books, collectables, and fashion volunteers, shop and day leaders, recruitment coordinators, shop finance organisers or health and safety volunteers. With 100,000 retail jobseekers on our site, we believe there is something for everyone.î
Charities already involved in the scheme and benefiting from an increase in volunteer applications as a result include Save the Children and Help The Aged. A number of other charities are also looking to post their volunteer roles over the next month.
Helen Chater, volunteering opportunities executive at Save the Children said: ìAs the competition hots up on the high street we’ve developed new creative roles for volunteers in Save the Children Shops. We’re looking for people who are passionate about helping vulnerable children around the world and making a difference by giving a small amount of their time. In return, volunteers will get all the training and support they need, an opportunity to use their skills to raise money for Save the Children’s work world-wide, experience in retail and marketing, the opportunity to learn new skills and the chance to work as part of a team of dedicated volunteers to make sure the shop is a success.î
ìVolunteering for Save the Children will not only benefit vulnerable children around the world but it can also help gain valuable knowledge and experience in both retail and charity environments.î She adds.
