Retail workers find love on the shop floor

Survey by RetailChoice.com

A survey has been undertaken by RetailChoice.com to discover how intimate retail employees are with their co-workers compared to the UK norm. 1,350 visitors to the retail specialist jobsite completed the survey in the run up to Valentineís Day and revealed that they are amorous the whole year through.

Recent research conducted by sister jobsite Totaljobs.com revealed that 1 in 4 UK workers have either married or had a long-term relationship with a work colleague. Retail workers approve of this popular trend with 35% dating or conducting a longer term relationship with a fellow employee. ëLonger working hours - especially in retail with the growth of convenience stores and 24 hour openings - means a relationship with a colleague is becoming a more acceptable optioní, says Kate West, Marketing Executive for RetailChoice.com.

However if no-one on the pay roll takes their fancy, 12% of respondents admitted they had dated or had a fling with a customer. ëThis is one advantage of shop floor work, compared to an office jobí says Kate. ëWorking in a public facing role means you constantly meet new people and increases your chances of meeting ëthe oneí at work.í

It is not just romance that blossoms across the cash tills. 50% of respondents met some of their closest friends through work and 90% socialise with colleagues outside of hours. It seems retail workers can not get enough of each other, as they are choosing to sleep, eat and chill out together ñ including, says Kate, ëa very wide variety of extra curricular activities!í
