Over 10,000 raised for NSPCC
Attended by LBC Presenter Jono Coleman
The recruitment industry faced its toughest grilling in years on April 21 2005 but luckily ATSCo members were on hand to provide the answers. The occasion was not a select committee interrogation at the House of Commons but the hugely successful first ever ATSCo charity quiz championship.
The event, which proved to be the most raucous and high-spirited ever hosted under the ATSCo banner, was held at that home of Premier League Champions Chelsea, Stamford Bridge. The evening raised over 10,000 for the NSPCC and was attended by over 200 recruitment consultants from the technology staffing industry.
Ray Murphy collected the ATSCo Championship Cup as captain of the winning team ëHot Springí, a team of consultants from (wouldnít you know it) Spring IT.
The prize was contested by 19 teams from the IT, telecoms and engineering sectors of the recruitment industry. Team names included ëMarkedly Superior Brainsí (MSB International), The X Factor (Xansa), Obviously the Champs (OTC), Get Carter (Aston Carter) and the Glotilians (Glotel).
Six rounds of ten questions were fired at the assembled industry intellects in the following categories: science, geography, pop culture, general knowledge, sport and (in recognition of the NSPCC) children.
Questions such as ëHow many children did Queen Victoria have?í and ëWhich is the oldest of Cambridgeís colleges?í tested the industry to its limits but few proved tougher than ëWhat were the names of the five Tracey brothers in Thunderbirds?í
The quiz was a heady mixture of the crude and the sophisticated, with LBC Presenter Jono Coleman providing the jokes and Stamford Bridgeís wall-mounted plasma screens relaying the questions and answers.
The eveningís festivities were sponsored by JSA, with Managing Director, Barry Roback, presenting the most prestigious piece of silverware seen inside Stamford Bridge in 50 years to the winning team.
Ann Swain, ATSCo Chief Executive and compere for the evening, comments: We had an electrifying eveningís entertainment - the amazing amount of cash raised for the NSPCC, the highly atmospheric choice of venue and the good-natured banter from the teams all made the event hugely memorable. Demand for tickets was massive and with enthusiasm for next yearís event already at fever pitch, this is going to be something that will become a regular fixture in the industryís social calendar.
