Work-a-Thon Raises $3,410 to Support Traumatic Brain Injury Survivors and Their Families
Recruitmax, an award-winning global provider of workforce management technology solutions, today announced the Companyís first ever Work-a-Thon has raised $3,410 for the First Coast Brain Injury Support Group (FC-BISG), the local chapter of the Brain Injury Association of Florida. This contribution represents the largest donation to date for the support group.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, each year more than 50,000 people die as a result of a brain injury and as many as 80,000 are left with a long-term disability. The mission of the FC-BISG is to provide a safe, nurturing, and trustful environment where brain injury survivors and their families can network to meet their social and emotional needs as well as provide educational materials and resources.
Recruitmax continues to show itís all about the people, and lend its support to the local community. October is recognized as Brain Injury Awareness Month and the Recruitmax Work-a-Thon, staffed by its engineering and support teams, was held during the weekends of October 16 and 23. Recruitmax donated $10 for each order filled between the hours of 6:00 p.m. on Friday through 8:00 a.m. on Monday for both weekends.
The life altering effects of traumatic brain injury (TBI) are felt by millions of Americans daily, said Staar Russell, senior application solution manager at Recruitmax and organizer of the Work-a-Thon. I can personally vouch for the impact this organization has made on my family. We were introduced to FC-BISG after my sister, Rozena, was struck by a van in January 2003. The support our family has received from FC-BISG has made a huge difference in our lives, and I am so glad that Recruitmax was able to support this organization that has helped so many.
FC-BISG offers support services for every life that has been touched by brain injury, not only the survivors. The support group meets once a month, but due to a lack of funding, does not have a permanent location. The vision of the group is to obtain a location that can be accessed during set daily hours where members can visit, talk and participate in organized activities together.
Saying thank you to Recruitmax for such an overwhelming contribution just doesnít seem to be enough, stated Jane Mercer-Elkins, executive director of FC-BISG. As a brain injury survivor, my dream has been, and continues to be, to make sure that no survivor or family will ever have to be alone during such a frightening time in their lives. Recruitmaxís support is helping to make this dream come true.
Recruitmax will be honored for its contribution during the FC-BISGís Awards and Appreciation Dinner on February 17, 2005.
I thank every member of our engineering and support teams for their time in raising money for such a noteworthy cause, said Derek Mercer, Recruitmaxís Founder and CEO. Recruitmax has a strong commitment to its employees and the local community, and I hope that this contribution will have a positive impact on those whose lives are touched by TBI. Weíre looking forward to topping this yearís contribution with our next Work-a-Thon!
