Today, the Trade Union Congress has launched a Commission on Vulnerable Employment
Commenting on this venture Tom Hadley, Director of External Relations for the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), the trade association for the UKís recruitment industry, said: ìThe Commission should focus on the best outcomes for all workers. The REC supports the goals of the Commission with respect to fighting exploitation and ensuring that stringent employment rules are enforced.
ìHowever some of the comments around agency workers are misleading. Agency work provides a vital route into work for many people and can often act as a bridge between positions in the permanent workforce.
ìAdditionally many workers choose to temp as it provides them with the flexibility at work they require. The REC would be delighted to share its considerable experience in raising standards within the recruitment industry with the Commission,î he added.
The REC is highlighting the vital contribution temps make to the workforce in National Temporary Workers Week next week. The REC will be giving its ëOne in a Millioní Award to the temporary worker has found a great career in temporary working.
