Realmatch Employment Market Balance Index (REMBI) shows improvement in February and March 2009 over January 2009
Realmatch Inc., today announced the results of analysis of employment data collected across a network of over 1000 Realmatch-powered job sites. Analysis indicates signs of improvement in the employment market in February and in March 2009 compared to January 2009.
The Realmatch Employment Balance Index (REMBI) is the ratio between candidate supply and job demand across industries and locations. Realmatch-powered job sites utilize a unique job matching technology to match candidate qualifications and preferences with employer requirements. www.Realmatch.com currently indicates 9.3 million job matches across the network. Data derived from these matches was used to generate the REMBI.
The REMBI compares the total number of candidates in a given month with the total number of jobs with which they were matched. The results indicate whether the supply of candidates exceeds the demand of employers (or vice versa) on a month-to-month basis. The following is the REMBI for October 2008 (base year) through March 2009:
As can be seen from the table above, between October 2008 and March 2009 the supply of matching candidates per advertised jobs increased by 205%. However, between January 2009 and March 2009 the ratio decreased by 27.5% which could indicate either a smaller candidate supply on a per job basis (that's good) or a sudden increase of jobs not matched by a similar growth in matching candidates (unlikely).
The numbers may alternatively indicate that candidates are less selective in the type of jobs they are willing to accept and the employment market is starting to adjust to the economic conditions and is becoming more efficient.
We may be seeing the first signs of an improving employment market says Gal Almog, CEO of Realmatch Inc. There are still millions of job vacancies, and although there may be fewer jobs than in 2008, we see that the market is becoming more efficient in filling the available job vacancies.
No industry has escaped the recent economic downturn. Areas that have seen the worst ratio between candidate supply and job demand include: building maintenance, domestic work, engineering, manufacturing, operations, logistics, and warehousing. Areas that have seen the least decline include: telecommunication, cellular, insurance, and protective services.
